What we collect, why, and how to make us stop.
What we collect when you read: nothing
Reading this site collects no personal information about you at all. No analytics, no advertising tags, no cookies, no logging of what you read, and no third party receiving anything about your visit. Reading this site is not recorded anywhere we can see.
The one thing that involves your details is the weekly letter, and only if you choose to join it. That is the next section.
If you join the weekly letter
The sign-up on the subscribe page is not a form. It opens your own email program with a message ready to send, so your address reaches us the same way any other email does. Nothing is collected by this website itself, and no sign-up service, tracking pixel or third party sits between you and us.
What we keep is your email address, and the date you asked to join, in a list held by the person who writes this publication. It is used to send you the letter and for nothing else. It is never sold, never rented, never shared and never given to an advertiser.
To leave, reply to any letter with the word stop, or write to hanh@hanhbrown.com. You come off the list the same day and the record of your address is deleted with you. You do not have to say why.
If the letter ever moves to an email service that holds the list for us, that service will be named on this page before a single address is moved to it.
What is kept on your own device
Two things, both stored by your browser and neither one sent to us: your light or dark reading choice, and the fact that you have dismissed the notice at the foot of the screen. Clearing your browser storage removes both. The cookies page names them exactly.
If you write to us
Email sent to the address on the contact page is read by a person and kept only as long as it takes to answer you and to record any correction it produces. Writing to us does not put you on the newsletter list. The only thing that does is asking to join it, and you can do one without the other. Ask us to delete your email and we will, and say so when it is done.
When this changes
This page is updated before a change goes live rather than after, and it names what is collected and who receives it. That has now been done once: the weekly letter opened on 14 August 2026 and the section describing it was written into this page in the same change that put the sign-up on the site, not afterwards.
No measurement has been added. If any is, it is named here first. There is nothing on this page that used to be true and quietly stopped being so.
